Dr. Garneau obtained her B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the Université du Québec à Rimouski, Canada, in Oceanography. She completed her Ph.D. in Biology at Université Laval, Canada, from 2002-2008. She was also an science coordinator for a year during that period. After her graduation (with honors), she completed two years of postdoctoral studies at the University of Southern California, USA, in Marine and Environmental Biology. She is currently working as a Project Investigator at the University of Zürich within the framework of , a project funded by the Swiss National Funds.Dr. Garneau has conducted research in microbial ecology in the Arctic Ocean within the context of the and the Project . She also studied the ecology of harmful algal bloom in coastal waters of Los Angeles. She has great interest in the structure and seasonal dynamics of the microbial communities using molecular tools combined with remote sensing approaches for a better understanding of the ecology of prokaryotes and Protists, at both small and large scales.
